Another New Player Returning

So I just started yesterday after a long, long absence from the game. I played for 1.5 years after release of the game. I know a lot has changed some I'm not going to even ask about that.

I've been scouring the forums for information on tanks and most of it looks pretty bleak. What I'm curious about is if playing a tank is viable for end game PvE and PvP (mostly sieges as I hear open field is all scripted now and not fun). A lot of this information is older as the forums do not look as active anymore.

I should say that I've read posts where if you want to be top dog you need to spend a lot of cash. I only plan on doing the $15 subscription and I do not need to be #1 or even #20 on the server for PvP (or PvE). I would just like to play my Eva's Templar with a clan, not get left out because I'm a tank, and still be of some use.

So is Eva's Templar viable, and serve a purpose, in a clan (when I find one) in regards to endgame PvE and sieges? Will I be able to stand my own with a group behind me during a siege? Again I understand that I will not be a top level PvPer because I do not plan on spending hundreds of dollars a month. I just want to be included.

I have always loved the elf tank since I started playing many many years ago. At the same time I want to easily be able to find a home somewhere and join in on the fun without being a hindrance to my teammates. If this isn't possible, I will probably just make a healer.
