I think that giving players the chance to change their race would be a really nice idea... I mean playing years with the same character (name, gender, appearance, RACE) is really boring some times. And then comes the problem: some races have unique classes. Well to give the ability to characters to change race w/o a problem occuring, i suggest that since none of main,dual and subs are unique classes, character should be able change race, w/o any impact to his current status. If a class of his is unique he sould 1st change his class to a compitable one (common one), and after change. If he doesnt do so, changing race should be unavailable. With this someone can get the appearance of the race he likes and the unique class too (via a class change) without spending time to relevel a new character since his main is maybe 101/100/80/80.
